The socks are haunting me. As usual when I get something stuck in my head (especially if it involves buying yarn) I have to see it through, then start excitedly and then lose interest. After all, the hard part is done, I did all the math already.
I ordered 4 skeins of Knit Picks Stroll Fingering (yay coupons!) and picked up some zip ties. They’re great for holding skeins together and picking them up without making a mess. My yardstick worked, up until the point when it started to bend, I’m not quite sure if each hank is actually 112-ish yards, but whatever.
I zip tied two mini skeins together, to get the same color for each sock, and let them soak in water and white vinegar overnight. The next day I broke out the Kool-Aid and Wilton’s Gel Food Coloring.
Starting with the lightest pink, I lightly simmered it in a tray on the stove top. When it absorbed the color, I transferred it to the larger tray. After finishing all three pink colors (I added more and more dye to get the darker colors) I speckled them, on the stovetop, by sprinkling Kool-Aid on them. The grape color worked great, it’s very dark and that’s what I wanted. I repeated this for the yellow/orange skeins and I just speckled the white skein.
After they cooled I gave them a quick rinse and voila! They are ready to go. Now I just have to wait for the Addi Flexi Flips, they’re backordered till March…
